The family she grew up with was Catholic and she was raised in the Upper East Side in Manhattan. In order to avoid being a victim of the system, her parents were enrolled at the Convent of the Sacred Heart which is a revered and prestigious school. She was very fond of music since she was an infant. She learned how to play the piano, and at the age of thirteen, she wrote her first music. She was a part of open-mic night. The singers she admired included Queen Michael Jackson Madonna and David Bowie. She took music classes in the Tisch School of Art of New York University after completing her high school education. She did not complete her study, but left the school to start her career in music.
